On December 25th, when billions of people around the world are celebrating a Christian holiday, Jews from around the world will be gathered in Las Vegas to play poker. The organizers of the $1,000 buy-in Texas Hold’em poker tournament aim to attract at least 300 Jewish poker players to the Venetian, where they’ll be playing for an estimated first place prize of $70,000.
Though no Israeli players have as of yet confirmed their participation, there are at least three who we’d love to see at the tables: former IDF Officer Eli Elezra, former IDF Paratrooper and professional soccer player David Levi, Amir Lehavot, and Rafi Amit. And of course no Jewish poker event would truly be “complete” without the participation of established card playing titans like Erik Seidel, Mike Matusow, Barry Greenstein, and Michael ‘the Grinder’ Mizrachi.
